CAMINO DE LOS YUNGAS

roads of master of the roads...



As it should be with master of the road, I am mostly inspired by the road, recently, unfortunately, even more than by women;) Already being on the road is a sufficient condition for me to feel alive, and when the road itself, from the beginning to the end, it's overloaded with oohs and wows, leads, escarpments, beating eyes waterfall, then people can really go crazy with joy and it happened to me one pleasant day in the bolivian Andes.

I waited a few days for the weather to see where I was going ... You know I had some expectations, at the end, you don't wait a week for just piece of shit ... maybe I was even expected something special but FUUUUUCK !!!!! and that feeling when reality exceeds the most daringly designed expectations - not only those from 4500 meters above sea level, but even from the modest two thousand.

So it was like this with Camino a los Yungas!

If you would like to visit the whole world in one day and do it on foot, moving from Kamchatka winter to tropical summer of biting Amazon mosquitoes, then you can.

North-east of La Paz, for aproximately 100km we have the road, leading to the Yungos coca growing region... People were dying here in cosmic amounts - 200 accidents, 100 victims a year, made this crossing the most dangerous road in the world. When the region was really threatened with depopulation, it was decided to build a safer crossing. A new road... 90km from La Paz (3800mnpm) through the highest point of La Cubre (4600mnpm) falling into the village of Yolosa (1200) lying in the river valley and ends in the town of Coroico (1500) - La Cubre - Yolosa Denevelation 3400 m !!!!

3400 where everything changes - landscape, vibre, sounds, smells, temperature, fauna, flora ... Luckily, the newly built road only partially following the trace of the old one. There is 40 km long secion (antiqua ruta), which relieved from road traffic, may finally fall prey to hikers and cyclists, and there days it has my prey.

I limited my 40 km descent to this old piece of camino. Still perfectly maintained, completely passable - I have to come back by jeep !!!! rather for drivers with stronger nerves;) episode, is prepared for tourist attractions and it is! an unheard of attraction for me.

During my descent I did not meet anyone at all (the pandemic also has some advantages ;) - and I could feed me on the wildness and awe of this place. I didn't even meet the thieves, for which the locals kept hoping for me;) The descent with the affirmation breaks took about 13 hours. I started from La Paz before 6:00 to drive into Coroico for the night. Sharing here some photos from this amazing experience.
